About ChatNoise
A noise test for voice and video calls, and a reference for fixing what it finds.
What the site is
Most mic tests tell you the mic works. ChatNoise tells you how much noise it sends: the noise floor in dBFS, how loud your voice is against it, whether it clips, and whether there is mains hum. It then shows how each chat app is likely to handle that, and which setting, device or room change would fix it.
Around the test sit four sections: apps (what each chat app does about noise and where the setting lives), fixes (start from what you hear), software (noise suppression tools compared) and learn (the numbers explained).
Who it is for
Anyone about to join a call who wants to know how they sound: people working from home, meeting hosts, gamers on voice chat, streamers checking a setup, students and teachers, support agents on a headset, and the IT folks who field the complaints.
How facts are checked
Every setting name, menu path and limit on an app or software page comes from that vendor's own help pages or announcements. Each page shows the date we last checked it and lists the pages we checked it against. If we cannot confirm a path from the vendor, we leave it out and say so rather than guess.
The test's thresholds are our own, explained in the methodology. The site carries no ads and no affiliate links.
Spot something wrong?
Menus move. If a path on this site no longer matches your app, write to hello@chatnoise.com.
