§ 01 — Removes
What it removes
- Mild background noise or white noise in an OBS audio source, such as PC fan noise
§ 02 — Limits
What it cannot do
- Generally not effective against a lot of background noise, such as a loud room
- RNNoise, the default method, sounds better but uses more CPU; Speex lets you set the strength
- With Speex, a stronger setting than the −30 dB default filters out more but can distort your voice
- NVIDIA Noise Removal shows up as a third method only after you install the NVIDIA Broadcast SDK redistributable
§ 03 — Setup
Where the setting is
OBS Studio → Audio Mixer → cogwheel next to your mic's volume bar → Filters → add Noise Suppression → Method: RNNoise, Speex or NVIDIA Noise Removal
The noise test hears your mic the way your browser gets it, which may not include OBS Studio noise suppression. Run it to see how much noise your mic picks up, so you know how much the filter has to remove.
Run the noise test → § 04 — Works with
Works with
The filter cleans audio sources inside OBS Studio, so it shapes what OBS records and streams, not the mic a call app opens.
