§ 01 — Removes
What it removes
- Background noise on your calls, so people hear you clearly (Google's help page)
- Background noise behind the person you are talking to (how Google described it at the Pixel 7 launch, using machine learning)
- Background music such as hold music
§ 02 — Limits
What it cannot do
- Pixel phones only, from Pixel 7
- Depends on your call's bandwidth and may not be available on every call
- VoIP apps get it only on Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a
- Google's pages describe it two ways: today as filtering noise so people hear you, and in 2022 as cleaning the voice on the other end of the line
§ 03 — Setup
Where the setting is
Settings → Sound & vibration → Clear Calling → Use Clear Calling; during a call: press a volume button → Clear Calling in the volume panel
The noise test hears your mic the way your browser gets it, which may not include Pixel Clear Calling. Run it to see how much noise your mic picks up, so you know how much the filter has to remove.
Run the noise test → § 04 — Works with
Works with
Calls in the Pixel Phone app on Pixel 7 and later; VoIP apps on Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a; and some third-party apps for Wi-Fi calls on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
